NGC7090 Galaxy in Indus

NGC7090 is quite a beautiful spiral galaxy in Indus, viewed edge-on. It's pretty small but positioned nicely for us southerners, approx 31My away and mag 10.5. There's lovely colour to be captured with this one, with Ha regions through the core and lots of young hot stars in the outer regions. There's also some beautiful intricate dusty patterns scattered throughout.

I've managed to capture 4hrs over 2 nights - the first night was very good seeing, APP reporting FWHM of about 1.5. Unfortunately my attempts for some more data could not match the same quality the next night, so although the noise level has come down I didn't manage to pull any further detail. Stars went a bit crazy combining the 2 nights data of very different quality too... Alas, the weather is closing in on us so that'll probably have to do it for 2022 on this one.

Thanks Allan- yes surprisingly rare isn’t it! Hardly any shots on IIS or Astrobin. Certainly a target for longer fl but needs the right sky conditions to make the most of it.

Bit challenging imaging from the city mostly due to the huge noise floor. I’ve been following that thread on Noise x terminator with great interest…

Thanks mate I appreciate that! I’m in a B6/7 location, but looking SE -SW away from the major city glow it’s a bit darker. Let me tell you it makes a huge difference where I point…but I drool for true dark sky!!

It’s been a fun and very interesting experience working with the c14 - really just experimenting to see how far it can be pushed with dso imaging. I’d like to say I’ve got it all dialled in but there’s a few gremlins still to be sorted out and I’m yet to get to the point where I feel I’ve reached it’s peak. Certainly not going to match a rc14 but the sky is the biggest enemy of all at long fl anyways!

Thanks mate- I’ve found APP really powerful in background neutralisation and removing gradients. The colour was an added bonus!

Thanks mate- yes I’ve been following the thread and think it’s worth a trial. I do have PS (kind of)- as in, my wife has it on her work laptop and I hijack it with astro pics when I can…hopefully their IT guys don’t notice a few extra apps appearing…

I reckon with modern NB filters there’s plenty of opportunity’s for some pretty decent results from the suburbs, OSC shooting broadband is certainly a challenge tho!! Sometimes it works out nicely for a good result! Cheers
