Ok .. I want to purchase an item from Diffraction Limited in the US but the only payment option is Credit Card. I don't want to compromise my current card because experiences in the past have resulted in fraudulent transaction against my card which means cancelling and getting a new card issued. So I am looking at possible prepaid VISA card option but some do not work for overseas purchases. Has anyone got one of these VISA Cards where you can transfer funds to and that can be used for overseas transactions?

There are services like privacy.com where they can spin up virtual credit cards with limits for 1 off payments or lock to a set amount for a certain time, but I have not personally used them,

Just add a visa debit card/account at your bank for use on the internet. You can only use what you’ve put in the account.

As Wilso said.

Hi,

Westpac offers a new digital credit card. The main benefit is that the CVV changes every 24 hours, so potentially there is no need to change if the card is compromised.

Your existing card, credit or debit can be used as a virtual card.

Hi Zuts,

Sadly, changing only the CVV does not protect against "card not present" transactions, which seems to be almost all of the online stores. This card will only protect you if the store requires the CVV.

Cheers,

I use a 28degrees platimum mastercard just for overseas purchases.
It gives you a fee free card with an exchange rate which is as good or better than xe.com.

Merchants receive a lower rate if they require the cvv, so it is in their interest to require it, also i wouldn't shop at an online site that didn't require a cvv. Caveat Emptor.
