Hey brain trust,

Looking to upgrade from my unmodified Canon 1100D.

Given my light polluted Melbourne skies, I have opted to go monochrome.

Just wanted to make sure this was a sensible imaging train.

I am currently using a Skywatcher ED80 without a field flattner on a EQ6r-pro with NINA. I will upgrade to a Celestron 9.25HD SCT when funds allow.

Upgrade would be as follows;

Main camera - QHY 294m Pro
OAG - QHYCCD OAG-M
filter Wheel - QHYCFW3-S Motorised Filter Wheel
guide camera - QHY-!=III-290M mono
Filters - LRGBSHO Antlia 3.0 nm Pro

As I am not using a field flattener - I am right in thinking that I do not need any additional spacers?

Amp glow seems to be an issue with the 294m chip but what I have read is that it seems to calibratre out. Is that true?

Anything else I have missed?

Thanks in advance and clear skies.

Dilshan

Dont know about the other gear, but the leap to 3nm NB filters from a DSLR is impressive. Given you are in Melbourne polluted skies, you will find 3nm NB very rewarding, and as a result probably do more of that than RGB, good choice.

Hey Fred,

Look forward to the leap. With the unmodified DSLR, I have shot all the brightest DSOs and have run out of targets with my current setup. Seems like the next natural step.

Cheers,

Amp glow exists in all the CMOS cameras except the 2600 (APSc size) and 6000 (full frame) sensors.

Yes amp glow will calibrate out in a QHY294M.

Because CMOS have other settings its good to fix your standard exposure times, stick to one temperature setting and make sure you have all the darks and flats you need whilst its setup. I test them calibrating an actual image I am going to use them on to make sure they all work.

CMOS don't have mechanical shutters so you need to be able to cap the camera to take darks, flats etc. You need to be able to do that.

All the more reason to minimise the number of darks you'll need etc. They all need to be done using the same settings.

Greg.

Will soend these cloudy nights making flats when it all arrives.
