Hi all,

I have been pursuing further adventures with the Antila dual-band filter whilst trying to tune my setup. This time I used the 2600MC on my little AstroTech ED65 to capture a larger object - namely the Running Chicken nebula. It's nice to be able to fit the whole thing in without resorting to mosaics. Hopefully you're not all thoroughly sick of seeing another rendition of this object.

I managed about 3.5 hours through the Antila filter and about 20 minutes of unfiltered OSC for stars before clouds moved in.
Pixel-peeping shows I still have some tilt I need to dial out but I'm as yet unsure how to approach it - perhaps a closer analysis of the subs taken on each side of the meridian?

A larger version can be viewed here: astrobin IC2944 (https://www.astrobin.com/full/2y4xff/0/)

As always I'm happy for comments/critiques/advice. Hope you like it,
Pete.

Great image! I like the palette and detail. Really good framing to include the NGC 3766 open cluster!

Thanks Kevin,

The field of the ED65 is quite large so I had a little extra to play with & cropped it slightly. ;)

Thanks Adam!

I think I'm slowly getting to grips with processing this type of image (& the OIII stands out pretty well on this object which made it not too difficult).

Thanks Greg - much appreciated! :)

We see enough chickens this time of year to open an IIS KFC :P...a lovely clean looking shot Pete, nice work

I do prefer it flipped though, seems to look more balanced this way..? :confuse3: now the chicken is running towards her nest of shinny eggs :)..of course it doesn't matter, just my brain probably, I like to see the chicken upright :drink:

spectacular, well done in every way!. Until Mike made the annoying watermark look Russian. Mike is Russian, he wants Ukraine to lose, although i wouldn't say that, obviously.

Thanks Mike.
Oops my bad - I seem to have imaged the nearby "falling Chicken" nebula by mistake.

Thanks Fred.
Also

Thanks JA!

How does the antlia compare with the L-extreme? I'm seriously tempted to buy this filter by your images, Lovely chicken!

Thanks Nik!

I've never used the L-extreme so I can't really compare. If the L-extreme is working for you then I can't see any reason to change to the Antlia for 2nm narrower bands. Perhaps if you're affected by star haloing or want something that's better at fast f-ratios that might be a different story.
