View Full Version here: : Oh so tired

I haven’t reviewed the terms and conditions of posts so I’m not sure if this is going to be in violation but I guess I’ll find out. I’m hoping that being in a general chat thread it will be considered just that. I also pray that it doesn’t spark political debate because I feel the responsibility lies with us and not a third party. So here goes ....
I’m getting tired. I’m getting tired of being told that the world is dying. I tired of being told that the car I drive and the history of its evolution is a blight on the world. I’m tired of being told that biology is not scientific, it’s subjective. I’m tired of being told that the ideas of outliers control the actions of the majority. I’m tired of every extreme event being blamed on the collective rather than the individual. More than anything but attributed to everything, I’m tired of waking up each day being told that I should be so ashamed for being a part of the human race. From the dawn of time and throughout evolution things have been done and have occurred which with the befit of hindsight were not ideal. You know what though ? They are the reason for our existence. You may choose to think that our existence is “ The Problem “ but I’m sorry, I refuse to. I refuse to devalue the trials snd tribulations, the wars and suffering, the risks and the endeavor of our forefathers. I refuse to devalue the lives of the humans that have gone before us. Their successes and achievements are the most amazing things that make us us. The planet we live on is amazing, the universe in which it resides is amazing but I will not appologise for being a part of that. I will not feel ashamed for who I am as a human being. I will not be sorry that I belong to a species that has the ability to leave the planet it started on 4 billion years ago. We are who we are because we are human. We can learn to create a better future but we can’t make a better past. I’m tired but I don't want to be. I want my son to see the beauty and possibility of the future. I want him to embrace the challenges it presents and I want him to be proud to be human. What his generation does will probably be wrong. It will be wrong to his children and grandchildren if they chose to spend their lives looking back on it. He, as we and those before us, will be responsible for nothing more than their existence.
Our perception of the world has been warped and it’s time we warped it back and started getting excited to be alive again.
Cheers
Ryan

Sorry to hear that Ryan.. but things change. We're not the same society we were 100 years ago, or 1000 years ago.
Things change, meaning changes, we adapt.
There is no certainty is life, except change.
And as one of my best mates told me, rather nonchalantly once when I spoke about some great times we had together
"you can't go back".
It's easier (and sometimes happier!) if you ride the wave instead of surfing against it :)

To clarify, I embrace change but not for the sake of it. I’m happy to discuss new ideas and learn. What I’m tired of is shame, disgust or devaluing of the people before us being used as the motive for change. I want to live in a world that embraces the future and it’s opportunties instead of being told how ashamed i should be for what my fellow humans have created and given to our species.

Where do my posts go ..no explanation..damn rude.
When we first went traveling this great country some 13 years ago and still enjoying it to this day, Alice was very apprehensive and unsure that we were doing the right thing.
I said to her as we drove away. " Nothing lasts forever" and "It will all fall into place" things did change and things fell into place as the years past, and we could not be happier.

The truth will always be the truth but finding it by sifting thru the information offered in this age is very difficult.
Dont let your chain be pulled.

My late uncle who loved a good chilled glass of rosé wine in the summer heat used to say "keep cool and drink fresh while drowning" Says it all. ;)

Thank you all for your responses.
I think or hope with time I will move on from the irritation to the wisdom you guys are displaying. I feel I have quite a good grip on reality and I am so far from a headline reader it’s not funny. I try to get information from both sides to form a balanced view. I think what I am so tired of is, as Alex so well put it, is the constant, relentless chain yanking.

Going with the flow isn't always the best option. Just ask the salmon.
Yeah, my Mumm says that to me, every day.

What bugs me is the politicians and climate change.
If they dont agree that cc is real then they dont do anything. If they are wrong then the consequences are horrific.

That's quite a rant. But I'm not sure who or what the target of the rant is (i.e. who or what specifically you object to). I suppose I could guess. There's plenty of criticism flying about - and many people objecting to what used to be the norm years ago - so perhaps you've reached some threshold of negativity that's set you off. Some of those norms included outright racism, gay bashing, sexual assault and severe disenfranchisement of some social groups, so those seem to me to be legitimate targets of negative sentiment (in the media or elsewhere) because after decades they still haven't been properly fixed. But, sure, there are (apparently) narrow-minded views being piggy-backed on legitimate concerns. Keep in mind that you may not have been exposed to the negative behaviour that 'people' complain about, but that doesn't make it any less real for the those who cop it every day.
Then again, there's a federal election this weekend, so forgive me for thinking this is a well-timed "side channel" political advertisement.

I think I see part of your problem Ryan. For example, you don't get information from scientists and creationists to get a 'balanced' view on evolution, you just listen to scientists. You don't get information from physicists and fundamental Christians to get a 'balanced' view on how the Earth and Universe formed, you just listen to physicists & allied scientific sources.
The media constantly lets us down in the Trump fake news era in this regard, where palpably false things are reported in order not to appear to show bias. Truth and falsehood become equal in value, just two sides of a coin.

Hi Andrew
I hope your and yours are well and indeed that goes for all our wonderful moderators.
First let me appologise as I am now reasonably sure I got things wrong and you know me well enough to realise that if any occassion presents itself where I have made a mistake I want to analyse what has happened, admit my human fragility and appologise... further to rejoice because I find that even I can make a mistake and remind myself that I am indeed a mere falable human.
Yes I deleted and edited the above posts but I submit it was because I was suffering a delusion which I would like to explain.
But before I go on I say that I am very very sorry to perhaps have caused confusion and taken your time to post to address my behaviour.
Yesterday was a big day for me where I achieved some, to me remarkable things, and avoided death literally by a foot ....and me being me wrote about it in my usual brief manner submitting I thought a thread titled "A Big Day"
I must emphasis it was a most taxing day and make the excuse that the stress and fatigue cuased my terrible behaviour.
Last night I came to general chat and right away noticed there were no comments on my new thread titled "A Big Day" mainly because it was not there..now I would like to think because I was tired and had experience a close call with death and been off my prescribed morphine for two days that I reacted negatively thinking my thread had been removed with no explanation..I now realise I was experiencing somewhat a delusional approach to reality..
Anyways my delusion manifested in a childish reaction to delete and amend my posts as it just seemed like the correct thing to do..but you think crazy stuff when you are delusional and fortunately I had a good night's sleep and able to embrace reality today and hence I sincerely appologise Andrew and thank you for caring enough to make your post as really I was at a loss how to handle my mistake and your post gave me the opportunity to offer answers that you deserve. Thank you.
In any event the other realty that hit me was my thread was totally self indulgent something I have had great trouble eliminating in my life and before I got here just now had rationalized that given the nature of my thread a moderator had every right to bin it..and as I have pleaded I ask before you judge me harshly please understand I was tired so very tired and although I have been boasting that I am not suffering withdrawal from the morphine perhaps that could be taken in account in extending to me some mercy in judgement.
One last thing if you could confirm that you did not see my thread "A Big Day" so I can decide if I should retell the story...if I can rember that is ..after all it was yesterday which seem now so far away.
To sum up I am sorry and appologise..and confirm even if the thread appeared and was deleted that I have no problem as I like to think I bow to the judgement of the moderators always..they have a thankless job and I for one appreciate all they do for us.
Alex
No worries Alex.
You can always send me a PM if you want a chat.

You take care and keep up the good work.

Hi Ryan,
Just stop watching the ABC and other Woke current affairs/general interest programs. and the similarly inclined newspapers and websites, put distance between yourself and the depressive types who have adopted the new secular religion and are into that stuff.
Back in 2018, half of America believed Congesswoman Alexandria Occasio Cortez that the world would be over in 12 years because of Climate Change. Just eight years to go.
As an interesting exercise, get Google or Bing up and search for "climate change predictions which did not come true", and have fun with hours of happy reading.
If Melbourne's depressing weather is getting you down - fly off to Bali, Thailand or even Fiji - plenty of good deals at the moment. Queensland is a bit epensive at the moment.
Cheers,
Renato

You're listening/reading too much negative media - and I agree it's everywhere - "the sky is going to fall" stuff.
There has been a worse period - my parents generation lived with "The Bomb", the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Cold War, and the prospect that with two people equipped with a Big Red Button, humanity could be all over, done and dusted - in a few hours. Cockroaches to inherit the planet. Sadly a certain idiot wants to return to this.
Turn negatives into positives. Instead of "OMG we're all going to die". Stop worrying about what has happened - that can't be changed. What matters is the future: what can you, we or the nation do. Opportunities, positive things that you or we can all do.
This is what counts for the next generation.
Starting with voting on Saturday. It matters.
Time to leave it there folks.
This is venturing into discussion areas that are beyond what IIS is here for.
Thanks.
