This is crazy!

Was following a thread on CN about how the eye perceives things, and how contrast can make areas more discernable.

An example of this was given, to this site (http://web.mit.edu/persci/people/adelson/checkershadow_illusion.html). The image below, squares A and B are the same shade of grey.

If you don't believe it, go to that site for the proof + explanation.

Our eyes/brain do funny things sometimes.

That is awesome!

I just walked around work with a few of them printed off showing people and making them cut them out. Good find!

Just holding up pieces of paper to the screen and shielding portions of the image I can almost feel my brain doing a recalculation then - clunk - I see the squares as different shades. Amazing...

Yep Dave, a couple of envelopes some sundry fingers over the image and it all makes sense. Wierd though, I would have almost bet money that they were different shades of grey. :D

Good one! :)

Here's another illusion. I had to chop it down a bit for it to fit, but you can get the idea.

"If you take a look at the following picture , let me tell you ... it is not animated. Your eyes are making it move. To test this, stare at one spot for a couple seconds and everything will stop moving. Or look at the black center of each circle and it will stop moving. But move your eyes to the next black center and the previous will move after you take your eyes away from it.... Weird..."
