Hi all, I hope I'm in the right area.

I have a 5" Celestron SCT and was considering an auto focus motor (Celestron part 91455 / 91455-A ) because my hands aren't always steady and I shake the scope noticeably when trying to get fine focus.

The Celestron site states: The focus motor is compatible with all SCTs from 6” to 14” in aperture that have been produced since the year 2006. It is not compatible with 5” SCTs or older models.

Has anybody got experience with a 5" Celestron SCT and Celestron's focus motor?
Is it "unsupported" but can be made to work fairly easily, or totally incompatible?

Is there an alternative focus motor which a forum member has used and knows will work?

Thanks
Rob

Shame you missed this: https://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=198041
Have you called Celestron Australia?

You can get a 3rd party adapter for the ZWO EAF that connects to a C5. https://buckeyestargazer.net/Store/ZWOEAF.php

As far as I know there is nothing for the Celestron focus motor - it's physical size & method of connection makes it unusable.

I had my finger on the button to say I'd buy, when I thought I'd double check the specs. That's when I realised it isn't compatible (so I saved some $$).

I haven't phoned Celestron, I might end up doing that thanks.

Brilliant! That's exactly the type of advice and link I couldn't find myself.

I wasn't particularly committed to a Celestron focuser, ZWO is a good alternative considering I have their camera and will one day buy an ASIair of some model.

Thanks Drac0.
