This spiral lies about 40Mly away in Antlia.

(For some unknown reason estimates range from 24 - 140Mly)
Image FOV is 25' x 21'.

Exposure: 2hr L, 1hr each RGB. Total 5hr unguided
Equipment: 300mm Officina RiDK, Moravian G4-9000EC, Astrodon Filters, DDM85 mount.

Excellent!. well processed too. Given your cam is 3056 (H) × 3056 (V) pixels, could you link to a bigger pic?. The 93.3 kb thumb nail is hardly doing it justice.

Have to agree, that'd be great to see bigger. Beautiful shot that needs a higher res image to appreciate

That turned out well. Little bluish patches in a few places I haven't seen before.

One of my favourite galaxies.

Thanks all. I appreciate your comments.

Fred and Adam: Although the camera has 3056 x 3056 pixels, 80% of them went in the crop! At 2.4m focal length, I can't really get up close to a galaxy of this size. Hence the thumbnail, which is heavily compressed by the iis upload, isn't all that bad. Certainly some of the whispy outer parts of the galaxy don't show as well, and the detail is not quite as crisp, but the only way, I think, to get you significantly tighter details would be 20 hours of exposure....or, of course, a bigger OTA.

Thanks again for looking,
Mark
