Venus 11 April

Coastal seeing and tons of salt in the air meant the Cass stayed inside, again. And again, the ol' dob delivered. As usual, image scale wasn't the best, but there was still a bit of cloud detail to be captured. Instead of trying a false-colour composite (I'll leave that for days with better seeing), I thought let's see what can be pulled through the #47 "Violett" filter I got from TS some time ago. There are some things one can make out, with some squinting. Not bad, considering the #47 is a fraction of the cost of the UV filter. Using the 47 visually, I thought the limb of the planet appeared darker near the equator than the poles, and the drop in brightness towards the terminator was greater than without filter.

Thanks mate, I've been wondering when we might see some images from that big Tak of yours again. They always amaze. To help you get motivated - the timestamp of the UV stream above is 10.50am, I had some morning tea before taking the lid off the dob. No need to get up at stupid o'clock. Also, having to work from home does have its perks :P

Venus is often ignored due to its “too hard basket” status for most of us( I’m a culprit) but I am always captivated by it. Great images here albeit average seeing. The indications of surface detail is enough to draw interest and wonder.

Interesting images and filter usage and that the #47 seems to show some albedo features.

Was out early this morning and took some vids of Mars, Saturn and Venus, my 1st planetary effort for this year. I have an violet filter so will give it a try on Venus.

Here's a GIF comparison with the previous day. Not as good as Marc's animation I saw on here last year, but you can still see some "weather" in action. Time difference is 23.5h. Identical processing. Be nice to get a clear run of a few days...

Tough object esp. without an expensive UV filter rather than W47. Seeing needs to be spot on.

Great shots and a really nice animation! The Venus U really does present some lovely cloud details over and above the standard #47 but yes with the comparison you can just make out some details in it too
