Hi all,

It has been months since I've been able to get the telescope out but there was a rare clear night in Canberra early this week (without a full moon) so I was determined to take advantage of it. Even though it was a week night I stayed up until well after 3am to make the most of the clear skies! This is a cropped view of the Carina Neb with η Carinae, Keyhole Neb, and some interesting gas/dust formations. I wish I had the focal length to capture this view natively but instead it's a crop of a drizzled integration so it's a bit soft. It was only 2 1/2 hours of data but luckily it's a bright part of the sky. I acquired 2 hours of Ha on the night but it didn't seem to add much to the image during processing so I left it out. On the next clear night I hope to get some very short exposures and do an HDR combination to show the Homunculus surrounding η Carinae. There is a bigger version on Astrobin (https://www.astrobin.com/full/t4maui/0/) for anyone interested.

Oops, just realised my image is almost the same field of view as John's a couple of days earlier (https://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=197533). I promise I wasn't trying to be a copy copy cat! I'm sure it's just a case of great minds thinking alike. :P John's is much better I think with his ETX 125 1900mm focal length that much longer than my 1270mm. You can really see the difference in the resolution and sharpness of his image.

Kevin,
Both yours and John’s Carina keyhole images are excellent , however I’m leaning towards yours as I’m a newt man. There’s something about the sharpness of an f4 and f5 newt in particular those bigger stars with diffraction spikes.
Both images have tremendous resolution and detail
I’m in the process of building a 10” f5 Klaus Helmerich CF newt ( supplied by Sidereal) myself next month to sit on a new EQ8-R mount in my NexDome Obs on the South Coast.
I’ve been imaging with 6” and 8” newts for 4 years now and the 10” will be a keeper for how ever long I do the hobby ( senior citizen now )
Well done !!
If possible I’d like to see more images from your 10” throughout the Winter
Clear Skies

Thanks Martin,

I'm sure you'll love your new Newtonian. My Sidereal Newt is definitely a keeper. If you're interested, I've attached the full field image that I cropped the smaller version from (big version here (https://www.astrobin.com/full/8r71ze/0/)).
