I have finally got around to buying an Orion collimating tool after owning my scope for 12 months now. It is going to have its first collimation in a minute when I finish showering praise on the people at Bintel.

I ordered the collimation eyepiece over the internet on Thurday at lunchtime and it arrived at my place in Brisbane the next day on Friday. :2thumbs: It was sat at the post office over the weekend because I had been away camping, so I only got to collect it today.

Anyway I am going to collimate my scope.
Wish me luck :prey: , and if I'm not back in an hour then something has gone drastically wrong.

I'm back. Well, the secondary needed a fair bit of tilting because the reflection of the primary in the secondary was way off centre. That is all fixed up. When it came to aligning the primary mirror, it was very difficult to see the centre spot on the primary. I don't think I have the primary all aligned properly yet. Shining a light directly into the cutout of the collimation tool just gave me a harsh glaring relection of the cross hairs and made everything look blurry. I am hoping it will be easier in the daylight when there is plenty of diffuse light around. I think I will wait until the weekend.

Hi Andrew, I cannot fault the customer service at Bintel either, I rang today to order a IR-UV filter and spoke with Don who even though they sounded very busy still had time to discuss it with me and answer my questions.
It's that sort of service that I appreciate and will definately keep me coming back.

Cheers

To join the Bintel cheer squad, I got a laser collimator with my Lightbridge and it doesn't show a point but a nice oblong! Called Bintel. Will replace immediately. Thanks, lads.
