Reminiscent of the days when people queued for hours to buy the latest IPhone ..

It got so long till the point the police intervened and the shops didn't open to sell.

There are people that collect watches, I have no idea why, as watches have become increasingly irrelevant.
Besides next week you can probably buy chinese knockoffs for $5 on AliExpress if you just want a pretty bracelet.
Now if these had been bundled with a fountain pen…. :)

Well, I collect and repair old watches (for the fun of wearing something about as old as I am) and this looks like the bargain of the century. A GENUINE Swiss Omega, well made and in the same style as the original Speedmaster - and for a few hundred bucks. You could get the whole set of these watches and have change from the many thousands of dollars that a used Speedmaster original would cost.
Those people who lined up did well. The initial release seems to be sold out and there are some up on Ebay at over $2000 each....

Unlike many I prefer a watch to a mobile phone. a turn of the wrist it's there and visible unlike many phone that you need to get out of a pocket and activate. I'm so often asked the time by people that I almost say check your phone. I may buy this (s)watch because I can. :)

Why did people line up for the IPhone ... to be the first to own it. Same when MS released the latest Windows .. people lined up for that as well. I am interested in Time pieces but not enough to waste hours of my life in a line.

You probably can’t as it’s out of stock everywhere, and even if you can, I don’t think you’d want a watch that’ll stain your wrists ;-)

Things must be getting rather tight in the watch industry.... This is a bit like the Starbase 80 scope released in Takahashi colours a while back....... you get people thinking they bought a Takahashi refractor.

I don't collect them, I just like having different ones for different uses.....
I have a Seiko SKX11J as my daily use watch, Seiko SKX781 Monster for SCUBA dives, Omega Geneve 18K f300 Hz electronic for special events and a Speedmaster for Sunny Sundays
If these Swatches had been out three years ago I could have saved $10K on my Speedmaster :mad2:
I would never dive without a proper dive watch to back up the computer.... :eyepop:

I have a few watches but this one does not interest me as they appear cheap and nasty.

Well Glen, one reason why people persevere with watches is because the
upmarket models are now worth big bucks. I bought my Girard Perregaux
in Ireland duty free in 1965 for 65 pounds; I could sell it tomorrow for $6,000.
Like Drylander I much prefer a watch to a phone. In fact, being a dinosaur, I don't have a phone.

Almost tempting to get one of these later. They’re not limited editions so will be back in stores at a “regular” price anyway. Though I’m happy with my Citizen just not the fact my watch arm is none functional as part of my stroke. I too much prefer a watch to tell time and a camera to take photos and not waste money on a privacy invading surveillance device that easily slips from your pocket and shares your information with scammers and advertisers.
