4-5mm eyepiece

Looking for an eyepiece in the 4-5mm range and weighing less than 300g for use in a small scope. Will mostly be used for lunar so must be free of glare.

Not considering orthos or Plossls as their eye relief is just too short.

Astromart has an article on 4/6/7-9mm planetary ep's, usual suspects.

1) Pentax XL ( best throughput and image detail on Jupiter)
2) Radian (very close second I might add)
3) BO TMB ( because of FOV and eye relief)
4) UO HD, Circle-T Ortho (due to eye relief and FOV)
5) Nagler T-6 (rating reflected the amount of aberrations)


So, the TMB keeps good company for the price if you can find a good copy, range from $50 posted but not always good QC unfortunately.

ah for a star party, I'd say get a morph 4.5mm to try.

Not sure of the price ranges you have in mind, as for new players I would be surprised if APM didn't have a nice planetary ep now. They have been very aggressive about getting market space and position recently.

This one looks like a very familiar design, and I'd gues QC was excellent.

Morpheus is bigger and heavier than I want.

I had a version of that planetary eyepiece ages ago and it had glare on the moon so that put me off them. Other than that it would be ok from a price and weight perspective.
