Skywatcher pillar extensions

I have a half pillar extension on my pier for my neq6.
I would like to go just a bit higher and was wondering if anyone can tell me if I buy the 40 cm extension (which is advertised as a heq5 extension) is the same except for height and the top part.
Can I swap my neq6 top onto the taller tube.( basically are they the same inside diameter?)

I’ve been looking at this lately for my EQ6-R. Skywatcher have recently released a new pier extension in the US. No ETA for Aus yet. It is reportedly more stable.

Gday Steve,

I have the EQ3/EQ5 40cm extension.

The pipe size is
OD 102mm
ID 94mm
wall thickness 4mm

You can buy the pipe from a steel merchant as 90NB (medium thickness). They will cut you a piece to your length.

If the EQ6 pipe is a different size, take the top or bottom plate with you for sizing.

I found the 40cm extension too long, so bought a 2 metre length of 90NB and cut off a 20cm length. Drill some holes and paint, and it does the job nicely..

Hi Steve

Just to let you know that the EQ6 Pro mount will not fit on an EQ5 / HEQ5 tripod or extension. The bases are different shapes and diameters and thread sizes for the hand screw, the EQ6 is 12mm and the HEQ5 is 10mm. I have both and have just double checked.

Jeff, I already have the short extension for eq6.
Was hoping the tops out of the extensions will swap onto the heq5 extension tube as it’s longer.

Apologies for forgetting what the original question was, don't know if the tubes are the same diameter to able to swap over the end pieces.
