Hi all, I'm looking for suggestions on the most comfortable eyepieces I could get for my Meade LS-6. Stats are:

F/10 SCT scope
6-inch aperture
1524mm focal length

It came with a Meade Super Plossl 26mm and a couple cheap higher powered ones. I also have an Orion Edge-On Planetary 5mm eyepiece, but I'm finding that's way overpowered for this scope.

They perform okay, but I'm really looking for something that is very comfortable to look through. I find it difficult to get my eye into exactly the right position with these eyepieces.

Is it the eye relief or the AFOV that makes for more comfortable viewing? Or something else?

Ideally my budget on eyepieces is less than $100 each. I'd like to view both planets and DFOs, so one high power (8-10mm?) and one low power (25-40mm?) recommendation would be great, mainly aiming for comfortable viewing.

Thanks for reading!

Hey,

Plossls generally run at 80% ER of the stated Focal length. Use the smaller F/L's for a while and see what gets uncomfortable for eye placement and use. That will give you a rough range of ER you should be looking for.

As for good ep's, you may as well ask what's a good car... but at least with car's you've probably have some experience and preconceived preferences...

Starguider eyepieces. Still under $100.00 offer good eye relief and would work very well in your scope.

Depending on how many $100 ep's you want to buy as well. At some point a zoom may be practical.

Might be worthwhile thinking about a Baader MKIV or similar, check the apparent FOV in something like astronomy tools. But if you can fit in something like M42 and zoom for clusters, planets or adjust framing to suit your object, a zoom is a very versatile ep to have.

You may find you can get a Mark IV for around 3 eyepieces in your range.
