It was a good day (30th) for a first first foray into solar imaging using a solar film white light filter. The wider view is at 530mm and the close up at 3000mm focal length; both with a ZWO385 colour camera.

You must be pretty happy with that Steve. Great first images. Nice detail. What scope are you using?

Nice images - since you used a color camera why not present some color images? Cheers, JW.

Thanks for your feedback.
The short focal length is a Vixen ED103 with dedicated focal reducer. The long focal length was with a Skywatcher Mak127 plus Televue 2X barlow.
Both ride (one at a time) on my old trusty, silky smooth and accurate Vixen GPD. I have the scopes carefully balanced and balance marks on the counterweight shaft etc, so that they can be swapped out easily as needed.
The DYI Baader Solar film filter I had hanging around from the last solar maximum when it was used extensively for visual observations.

Those are great captures - excellent resolution for solar film white light.

Well, with sunlight at ~5800K, that'd just be white light anyway.

Thanks Ken. Lots to learn I think.

Thanks for your feedback John. Still getting my head around the processing side of things.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. It is an old Baader solar film DIY filter that was used extensively last solar maximum for visual observations.

Thanks for your feedback Gerard. I think I was lucky at the time with relatively good seeing conditions, going on my experience with planetary imaging.
