Well the IIS Santa Hat is up adorning the banner and we're nearing Christmas time with only 1 day to go, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones well for Christmas (&/or the Holidays) and for for a bright, happy and prosperous 2022. Here's our Christmas tree...

Christmas, New Year and the holiday period mean different things to different people. I think most accept it as a time for family, friends, reflection, wishing well and ultimately hope and happiness for the future. I feel this is especially important, given what we have collectively been through in 2021.


Unfortunately not everyone's circumstances are the same and for some this can be a difficult period, a time of sadness, loneliness and recalling loss. Support others where you can and always remember the good things - tomorrow is always going to be there.

All the best to you and yours. Give thanks to the wonderful warm community we have here. I hope you get what you want and if not, what you need. For those interested there will be is an IIS Get together in Melbourne, Camberwell in Mid/Late January 2022 on a weekend, with further details to be advised in the Melbourne IIS Meet thread. It would be great to see you there.

Ha, I just logged on to wish everyone Merry Christmas too. I figure rather than starting a new thread I'll just add mine here.


So, Merry Christmas to all the IISers. I've gotta say, this place is amazing. The amount of knowledge contained in this group is incredible and I'm always learning from you guys. It's the only astronomy group I regularly log in to. Cloudy Nights is okaaaaay, I guess, but this is the one that really has the goods in my opinion.


So yeah, I hope you all have a great Xmas and may all your astro gear work the way it's supposed to. May all your guiding be smooth, and may the clouds miraculously part whenever you point your scope at the sky. May the atmosphere be rock steady, and may the neighbor's porch light that shines with the brightness of a thousand suns suffer a mysterious and debilitating electrical fault. May your eyes never fade and may the stars burn ever bright. Except Eta Carinae. I'd like to see that one go 'Bang!' in my lifetime.
