Moon with EarthShine (my first)

Hi Everyone,

This was my first pic through my 10" Dob. This was mainly an experiment to check if I could obtain good focus since my recent mods. But I like the result. :)

This image is a comp of two exposures one overall and one for the Earth-shine. Balanced and blended in PS. The blend is a bit dodgy.

Canon 20D prime focus @ 1/125 @ ISO100 & 1/2 @ ISO800.

Any comments / criticisms welcome.

Although the earthshine 'side' looks a little grainy.

yeah the dark side is a bit grainy, I under exposed it by mistake and then the moon was lost behind clouds so I couldn't ty again. I will have to give it another try another night.

Would stacking help at all? I would imagine the moon would move too much through frame for stacking, or am I wrong?

Yeah, unless you have a 1D with 8.5+FPS, it wont do you very well in registax. I've been trying to keep align point with tracking, and it never works.

29 Moon JPEG's, no success.

Stacking will work fine, it just depends on your images and how you try and register them.

My other concern with multiple shots is the possibility that the click click click of the motor drive would vibrate the scope way too much. At the moment I am locking up the mirror, then using a cable release I press the shutter which goes off after a 2 sec delay. This removes vibration completly. But I think at 5fps I would be luck to get a sharp shot.:confuse3:

Camera shake would be a problem, better to keep using mirror lockup and cable or remote release IMO !
