I imaged this on the 30/10/21. One of the most stable nights I've had for a while. The HEQ5 was around 0.4 arcsec total and FWHM < 1.7 which is good for me.

C8 at F10 with ASI294MC, OAG, HEQ5Pro, ASIAIR Pro
80 x 130 sec OSC subs (from 100 captured). Gain 121 at -5C
Outer Melbourne with B5 sky.

It was just a great atmosphere over my backyard this night.

Apologies for the coma at the edges however, I've tried this with a 6.3 and I wasn't happy with the detail. Not enough pixels under the subject.

Can anyone tell me why there are "smudged" areas of reduce detail in the disc, to the left and right of the core? I thought it was me, but they are on all other images of NGC253 too.

Chris.

Really, really, nice. That core is stunning

As for smudges, I wouldn't know. Looks just like (relatively) empty areas of dust to me

Chris, that is a gorgeous photo with a lot of detail. Amazing what can be shot right here in Melbourne.

Excellent photo Chris. :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
It's a barred spiral. The blurry areas are the perceived voids in the galaxy disk. Have look here: https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/30980. It is more obvious in the NIR.

That's a great result Chris, lots of fine detail & lovely colours.
The C8 is a challenging instrument for imaging but capable of impressive results as you've shown here. Well done .
Cheers,
Tony

It's late, I've had a few glasses of wine, and I feel I have to share this.

This image is for to my mother. She died at 9:05 am on the day these subs were taken. She gave me my first telescope.

Love you Mum

Chris
