ngc253 LRGB from backyard

I tried my LRGB filters last night in Melbourne. Quite pleased with results but would like to use my recently purchased 200mm f/5 newtonian to image this galaxy. I used my qhy163M and 80ed f/7 refractor with 1 hour of 5 min subs for each filter.

Yes - I'll have another go - I am in a hurry to process the data and used my laptop which is not very well calibrated. Plus I tend to over saturate colour.

The spiral arms still look a bit too purple to me but you've done well with the processing, as getting the colour balance correct with RGB filters can be difficult. If this was your first time using these filters then that's a great start. Your 200mm f5 will be better but to be honest, this is a great result from a 3 inch scope, so well done to you! :thumbsup:

Yes was the first time using LRGB filters. (Can you use narrowband successfully with galaxies? I have Ha, Sii, Oiii and Hb filters). I am aiming to use my newt tomorrow if the sky is clear.

Narrow band filters are not normally used on galaxies apart from Ha which will enhance areas of nebulosity within the structure. These are usually used in conjunction with your LRGB filters. Good luck with the 8 inch Newt, hope the skies are clear for you but you'll have to contend with a waxing gibbous moon. Maybe you could try your narrow band under these conditions. :question:
