Celestron CPC 800 #11073

Re; the above, I have recently been offered the opportunity to purchase one of same, it is a few years old but the owner has told me that it has been assembled twice and it shows, there is a Celestron 1.25'' Eyepiece & Filter Kit - 94303 (still sealed) included in the sale. my impression of the whole deal is that it belongs to a bloke with to many projects (his huge shed is an indicator) and no time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Greg.
P.S. His price is under $3000.00.

I love my cpc800. Such a marvellous scope for visual and eaa. Mine is over 15yrs old and just never skips a beat. If you can test it and verify it works ok I don’t think it’ll give you dramas. Although $3000 is just slightly on the expensive side unless it’s the edge version.

I dont think he would listen as he seems past changing his habbits.

If there is one thing my recent experience has taught me is go for what you want when it comes to your hobby..it is not a waste so do not feel guilty about spending whatever you want..even if you must borrow the lot..it wont be huge repayments.....and think of how much you actually will save when you factor in the work and certainly the frustration in making it right..and that is assuming you dont run into a demotivating problem which will see the thing sit in your shed..all you see is the possibility of a bargain..but is it really?

Really you are taking a big gamble perhaps without thinking about the reality of fixing it...do you have time on your hands now? If not it won't appear ... If its just about the saving use the time that would go on the scope and work packing shelves or whatever...buy new or something as good as new can not be underestimated.
Good luck.

Thank you Alex,
I am still enjoying my Dob mounted telescope this just popped up and I considered the idea of auto control but I might be better off investing in a Argo Navis.
Greg.
P.S. I have time and funds.

I enjoy the old fashion way of star map and finding the object (the ones that were new to me which there were very few after a while) and although I bought my first goto maybe 15 years ago I only started using goto after I bought my second EQ6-R before last xmas.. but I must say I do enjoy it now. Tracking is what would be handy and you can do that rather easy for visual and for little cash.

Not sure how much under $3k the offer is, but at $3.7k new and the eyepiece kit not worth a lot, the condition would want to be very good.

Christmas and end of lockdown might provide a few more sellers soon.

Mate, the seller suggested that it has been out of the original packaging on only two occasions. And it shows.
Greg.
P.S. It may come up on the classifieds here.
