The title says it all. I have a 20 inch Newt (f4.5) needing a shroud. I would like to know if there is someone in Oz who would like the job of making one for me. Cheers.

Long shot but you could drop SDM a message to see if they can assist.

I say try Gumtree for a seamstress who can work with lycra, but I'd be worried about some of the responses.

Plenty of plans on the web if you can find someone who can sow, if you have a lincraft shop or similar you could try posting an ad there as well.

Or check for a sowing/knitting/CWA group in the area and offer them the chance of the stars for a little sowing...

Steve
Ps. Hubble UL have a 20 at F4.2 and the shroud is $105 USD + postage. Try to find a commercial seller who's selling a scope with the same specs and try them, might be easiest.

Thanks Hans and Steve for your responses. I will contact SDM first and then give my local knitting group a go. Cheers.

I'd also recommend you contact Peter Read at SDM Telescopes. He has a seamstress called Heather who makes all of his shrouds and she does a pretty good job of it. I am married to a seamstress (no she won't make you a shroud, it was hard enough getting her to put zippers in my Obsession shroud) and know good quality sewing when I see it. Peter uses non rubberised Rip Stop nylon and this material works very well. Dave Kreige on the Obsession scopes uses a rubberised Rip Stop nylon, which expands and contracts with temperature changes and IMO isn't as good as the material Peter uses.
