Some Jupiter shots and a small animation from last night. By then the wind was BS but still, all good practice for focusing and tracking when conditions are better.

Animated GIF here (https://www.astropic.net/astro/2021-10-04-1053_1103-RGB-Jup.gif). [2MB]. The moon of the side is Europa and the large dark one is Callisto. The small one is the shadow of Europa I'm guessing. Seeing was ok at times. Most of the softness is due to surface wind. :windy: This is "the least worst" sub of the lot.

Thanks mate. A little too soft too. I should have run it through TOPAZ AI ;)

Marc
Nice image there considering Jupiter is getting dimmer each week
Snags some moons as well
Well done !!
I thought you planetary guys would be packed away by now
I was imaging NGC253 in Sydney last night from 9.00pm to 2.00am
Conditions around 11.30pm onwards were really good , little or no wind , seeing ok , guiding started out at 0.90 and by 11.30pm was down to 0.68 ( Ra 0.50 Dec 0.45 )
Can’t complain, going to finish off subs and calibration frames tonight , clear until midnight, then cloud rolling in
Cheers
Martin

Planets are still up ahead so the season is not over yet and Venus is getting bigger and higher. The phase is also changing. Problem has mostly been the surface wind the past two nights. I tried last night but packed up. The seeing had gotten worse too. No clear nights on the horizon in the forecast for a while now.

Tonight’s clear until 1am , with less wind and humidity only around 60%
Next opportunity would be mid to late next week
I’m out tonight !!

Sounds like tonight is worth a shot. Might try the old c8 SCT with a 2xbarlow. May be better for planetary than the f5 newt.

If the jet stream map wasn't so bad, 120kts is a bit rich for me. Good luck.

Thanks Marc. You were brave enough last night to get those great shots in that wind. It was a shocker here at 55k.
