After some encouragement I decided to add Startools to the arsenal.

It has taken 5 days (on & off) getting up to speed with it, and I have to say I found it very good.

Ivo, if you read this 'thanks mate, a bloody good piece of work!

I did however use Pixinsight for batch pre processing and pixel math to add the Ha

Once again, thankyou for honest appraisal, esp. Marc & Mike :)

Peter,
Galaxy looks great
Well done !!

I guess I don’t have to keep flogging Startools anymore after 4 years

No one believed me how bloody good it is ( only kidding )

If you need any tips , glad to share them

Cheers
M

Hi M, thanx mate.

Might take you up on that.
Will have a look at the ST forum, I guess you have the same uname?

Peter,
Glad to help where I can (Remember I only use a OSC but the post processing is very similar )
Yep, user name is the same in Startools forum
Looking at your image again on my larger Desktop PC , one observation I noticed straight away from this Startools processed image and that is your image background ( stretch ) is excellent, no black clipping at all ( Startools won’t allow you to clip ) and fine detail in the galaxy and across the Star field is evident , whereas your previous images masked a lot of detail and smaller stars due to black clipping
If the data is well captured then Startools will optimise the detail without sacrificing dynamic range
I think your going to love Startools once you get your head around it

Cheers
Martin

Great to hear Peter! :)

That's fine result too for someone just getting started with a new tool!

Though there are a few ways to add Ha to a visual spectrum image (much depends on the object and depth of your Ha data), ST 1.8 alphas come with a dedicated module for the most laborious/difficult case; adding narrowband accents (docs being built here (https://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/startools18.aife.me/modules/narrowband-accents/)). The latter is particularly useful for galaxies such as these, which are typically poor in Ha signal, except for some very high signal stellar nursery areas.

Thanks Martin, also, for offering help and support.

Clear skies!

Hi Ivo

Thanks for responding :)

Will have a look at the module.
Being quite new to NB, I have found adding Ha (to a galaxy) very tedious and difficult.

Thanks once again.

Yeah not bad Pete and sounds like you are steadily honing in on a good processing work flow

'Not bad' coming from you Mike makes me feel quite proud.

At least I didn't send you running behind the coach :)

To be honest, Marc sent me a Startools log file that helped me get started.

Great system.

 far from it

I think a "not bad" is better than a "nice image"...:confuse3:

:D
