Damn these things are fragile electronically speaking. Storm here last night, fried the damned thing and yet the standalone modem is fine as is everything else.

Nope, plugging the damned thing in it makes clicking noises and has no link connectivity to the network - flashing red link light. It MIGHT be the node, but I doubt it. We had some VERY close flash-bangs here last night

Lodged complaint, seems NBN will be here Monday 1pm. They better not charge for these silly boxes, but I bet they will. Meanwhile, the good old trusty Modem flicked over to mobile data...we have a few gigs of that up our sleeves till Monday.

Unfortunately anything that is connected to a copper wire will get it. House alarm, modem. Are you FTTC or FTTP?

Kentucky Fried or Red Rooter style?

The damned storm sirens went off again today....we call them the Air Raid sirens seeing we live right next to RAAF Fairbairn. :P The one during last night's doozie went for 40 mins - sure woke the whole neighbourhood up.

It’s a combo pack,
Kentucky Fried Red Rooter.
Sirens could’ve been a bird strike?
I thought all you guys in Canberra are woke?

Us Greeks are used to the Siren calls.
We put wax in our ears and resist them.

OMG did they feather you speed, you can get fibre to the premises from the node as there are 192 fibre connections per node. I think there are 188 available. And then they charge you for the privilege, ask rb and Ahmed, his favourite telecommunication technition.

Well Ahmed at Telstra just confirmed its the NBN conn box, not the node/junction.

It's always a conn.

On a slightly related note, I needed to get my FTTP fixed by NBNCo, and it was a fantastic experience.

The guy was meant to turn up between 1-5, but rang ahead in the morning and came at 10am - was polite and professional - upgraded the entire cable between the outside box and the modem inside to a much more robust cable.

Told me that he lives only a few minutes away, and if I have any issues I can ring him and avoid the hassle of going through my service provider to log a job.

Back to Gigabit baby!

An update: NBN co did indeed come out - earlier than planned - on the Labor Day bludge day, 3 days after I lodged the ticket on the prior Friday evening.

They were here for around 10 min max - simply replaced the connection device and ran the tests.

And suddenly Telstra upgraded the plan for us for the same monthly price to 100Mb/s...and we get that nearly 24/7 :) Just ran an Ookla test in the middle of the afternoon and it spat out 92.24 Mb/s down, 18.77 up. Definitely fast enough for this chicken (our prior pegged at 54 down was fast enough - it rarely dropped below that seeing we were throttled from a 100 cable line)

Yeah, it'll do. Took 'em 5 years, but we are there now :P
