Thank you Hans for bringing that to the members..I found it interesting but looking at a video is as close as you will get me to flying.
Yes I know the stats say its safer than a car but I just am not interested in the least.

Its a shame really but you are not alone in the no fly camp, hope it is a no interest rather than a phobia. My greatest enjoyment was the occasional flying I did during my time in the RAAF .. least enjoyable .. flying in a Caribou .. Perth-Kalgoorlie-Forrest and back again and I don't drink. It was a matter of "Are we there yet"

Nothing like the ' drone ' of a Radial Engine .

Hans...were they ' single row ' ...or .... ' double row ' Radials

I had no time on them ....I was with P3B Orions with T56 Allison Turbo- Props.

Cute ... Asking a White-hander a Black-Hander question :D All I know was they were Radial and they leaked oil and shed bolts which could be found at the bottom of the Engine Cowls. Sort of like the Neptune.

Ex-RAAF'ies might appreciate the humour in the attachments.

Reminds me of an occurrence back in the 70's, a DC3 ' Goonie Bird ' was tracking North ( IFR - I follow railway lines ) with a big head wind against her....you could see the cars on the Bruce Highway below moving faster. :lol:

Oil Leaks .... most Radials did ....:)

Having to remove all spark plugs from inverted in line aero engines, and all
the plugs below horizontal on radials, every night, was a pain for the Engine
Fitters, and when overnighting somewhere with nobody available to do it, the Flight Engineer [me].

Sorry, I didn't understand Hans' saying "are we there yet" must have been a common mantra on radial powered aircraft. Their performance was the same
as an aircraft powered by in line engines of equal power. The fastest production aircraft with a piston engine [Hawker Sea Fury] was radial powered. With rotary engines I could see where Hans was coming from, but
they died out at about the end of WW1. Just about all post war airliners were
radial powered, and some of them were not much slower than the turboprops that superceded them, although obviously not as smooth and quiet.
