NGC 7098 The Steering Wheel Galaxy

I think this one looks like a car steering wheel hence the name from me.

Rarely imaged and I know why!

This is taking my imaging system at home to the max, with 12 inches of aperture, F3.8 and a 90% QE camera, 8 hours and 40 minutes and still not that bright or clean.

Best done from a dark site and a large scope I think and even then it would need long exposure.

I used a synthetic luminance as well on this one.

Great effort to image such a small dim galaxy at mag 12 and only 4’ x 2’
Way out of my league even at my dark site
Best left for folk who have 12” to 16” apertures and focal lengths above 2000mm with plenty of clear stable nights

I missed this one Greg...I don't mean to sound negative but like your NGC 55 shot, this also looks a bit out of focus..or have you just had particularly bad seeing lately..? :question: or is the OTA not cooling down properly or something - maybe some tube turbulence? How are you focusing that RH? Also, there is a faint outer circular ring around the galaxy that looks like a processing effect..?

But a very unusual shape.
