I just had a go at DeepSkyStacker and played around with it. I had Darks and Offsets in there too, but no flats. Now I know what they are, I will have to do some later. Anyway, I threw a few in together and this is what I got. It was a couple of images in each, exposures about 50 seconds ISO1600 Celestron Nexstar11GPS on alt-az tracking. Prime focus with a Canon400D.

Is that how you write them up?

Off to a good start indeed Baz. Not sure why you're using Alt-Az when you've got a wedge:shrug:

Its just because I have not yet perfected wedge polar aligning, and I was just in a rush to have a quick go at it to see how the image stacking stuff worked. I must say, I am fairly excited at where this can lead....it's good fun!

Mind you, today was a struggle. It's not good having a day job and astronomy as a hobby! Finally got to bed at 4:00AM this morning then up at 6:30 for work!

Barry,

I agree with Jase, a wedge will yield great benefits compared to the current set up.

I know the feeling regarding day job and this hobby, last night was beautiful but i couldnt stay up until 4! Should have though, given tonight's cloud cover around here.

You'll find that you can make some adjustments in DSS, sliding the bell curve of the RGB image left and right (i usually link all three colors together), adjusting saturation (I usually add a bit to my images ) etc. There are better and more detailled instructions elsewhere including as part of the support forum for DSS.

I'd suggest you have a go at running the first image through Noiseware. Even on the default settings you'll find it yields a great image...might just be my personal tastes though but i think it's worth a try.
