NGC1365 Lum

At this time last year, I imaged this galaxy with my new 150mm APO (using the OSC).

I now have the mono camera.

Last night from 11.30PM to 5AM I could once again track this galaxy right over the top (LUM filter).

It was a beautiful clear night and it was really exciting to see the data coming in.

The attached image is a tight crop of 50 X 5m (about 4 hrs).

Over the next 3 nights I will use the RGB filters and then have a look with Ha.

Can't wait!

Martin (if you read this). I was thinking of you when doing the stretch.

I lost 3618 pixels from clipping, out of 16,389,120 (hires) :)

What else can I say but “ fantastic “ Lum image of this tiny galaxy
All I would do now after capturing your colour data is just some light sharpening to bring out the spirals and core
and add your colour with only light saturation
It’s all there for you to produce an excellent final image
And yes I do notice that your images are slightly black clipped, the interstellar background should not be “ink black”or “jet black”. Black clipping loses valuable data.When the background is zoomed in close to around 150% the pixels should not be all the same black colour and contrast.
Well done for doing the red eye too

One of my fav galaxies. Pretty deep shot and you have a lot of details already. Many faint fuzzies in the back of the field as well. Looking forward to some killer colors :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Off to an excellent start. A bit of some sort of sharpening will help as well so long as its not overdone.

I remember an old post on this forum from Brad Moore. He found the longer the total exposure the more the data could take sharpening from the simple unsharp mask sharpening tool.
