I don't like DST because it gets dark an hour later and that is not good for astronomy.
We don't like DST ending in April because it is still dark when we go for a walk in the morning.

DST in NSW in 2021 ended on Apr 4 and starts on 3 Oct.
I think DST should end and start 2 weeks earlier on 21 March and 19 Sep.

The attached table shows sunrise and sunset times for Sundays in Sydney in 2021 (not DST). It also shows the end and start of astronomical twilight and the start and end of darkness, allowing for moon rise and set. It is from SkyMapPro.

Hi Glen,
You say DST is not good for Astronomy, well it doesn't really change anything in Astronomical projects like imaging and seeing I reckon,:) it only alters the time that we used to go out and do Astronomy stuff.

I do agree, I don't really like it either, and it should be banned as far as i am concerned.

Well that is my two cents worth.

Daylight savings time makes no difference in terms of the amount of darkness potentially available to anyone. DST is an artificial construct.

The extra daylight fades my curtains too much :mad2:

I think what the OP was alluding to was that an evening’s observing session starts 1 hour later by the adjusted clock.

Yes but they fade between 6am and 8pm now instead of 5am and 7pm.😉

and don't get me started about the way daylight saving upsets my cows, they don't know when to be milked

When I check my bank there are no savings so why bother. I read even Europe has seen sense and removed it. I maintain those that want it just start work an hour earlier and finish earlier instead of annoying the rest of us.:P

I agree with Pete "I maintain those that want it just start work an hour earlier and finish earlier instead of annoying the rest of us"

I didn't like Daylight Saving Time much when I was working and had a fairly rigid starting time - as it took away an hour's viewing time during work week nights.

Though it didn't matter much when work starting times became more flexible, and after retiring.
