Had a really good visual session tonight viewing Jupiter and Saturn even with a Full Moon sitting close by. Decided to finish the session looking at the full Moon something I have never done and I was blown away by the detail at 46X.
Question ... Was it/ Is it a bad idea looking at a full Moon without filtering?

yes it was but with cloud streaming through it was short lived

Bad, as in damage to the eye? I have used a 12.5" on full moons without problems, although I had some novices concerned about their loss of night vision for a few minutes. One even thought that the affect was going to be permanent. (Ha, ha, it wasn't off course.)
Or bad, as in more detail seen with a filter? I feel that I see more detail with a blue filter, but normally don't bother.

Bad as in long term damage to vision.

No. The moon is a sunlit object, it's brightness is the same day or night.
If it doesn't burn your eye looking at it in the daytime........
Cheers,
Jason.
