Triple transit with dark scoops

Folks,

Barely qualifies as the triple transit, but in the raw data Callisto was still inseparable from its parent, so I'm going to roll with that ;)

Sunday evening had been cloudy, and while it was slow to move, it did sweep northwards... about 10 minutes too late for my liking. However, there was a couple of minutes (literally) where the seeing was decent before it totally turned to fuzz :(

Scope: Celestron EdgeHD 11"
Camera: ZWO ASI462MC
Barlow: WO 1.25" screw-on
Mount: Sky-Watcher EQ8

I'm less than 5km from the ocean as the crow flies and it can be pretty variable when it chooses, all the grown-ups live inland where it's more stable. Sometimes (for example, the night before) it can be good for hours... just not this time :sadeyes:

It has also been quite educational to see how the seeing varies so locally, even between the relatively close together suburbs of Brisbane.

Thanks Dennis! This seeing change that night was quite unusual. It's typical to get average conditions with some good bits (but also bad bits), but the seeing pretty much dropped off a cliff that night. I'm speculating but the cloud was moving slowly and steadily (possibly good seeing, but poor transparency), and the seeing was above average for a few mins after the clouds moved out the way but then got bad quite quickly... almost as if what was pushing the cloud away moved overhead, and I was "lucky" in the calm lead-up. But I'm no meteorologist :sadeyes:

Very nice, well done. As you say, maybe you were lucky with the seeing, but luck does favour the pre-planned and pre-pared.!

Thanks mate! It was a bit of a panic when I noticed stars showing up to the south, I had already covered the scope up :shrug:



Cheers Dennis! I should add that this was shot from the Sunny Coast, and your AS!3 looks remarkably similar to mine from 30 minutes after this shot.
