I'm not a beginner but thought I'd post this shot of Jupiter I took last night to show what can be done with beginner's equipment.

I wanted to catch the GRS which meant capturing it at around 8.00pm EST while the planet was still quite low between the trees to my east. Seeing was average to poor but detail could be teased out in post processing.

Camera: Canon 550d DSLR, movie crop mode. Eyepiece Projection: Televue 5X Powermate. Scope: SW 150/750mm f5. Mount: Non Goto HEQ5. Processing: Pipp, AutoStakkert, Registax and Photoshop.

I am finding this 6 inch scope to be a great 'All Rounder' and recommend it as a good first time investment because they can be purchased quite cheaply second hand.

Mick
Nice image from similar beginner equipment to me
Well done !!
I can’t recommend enough a 6” f5 or 6” f6 newt to kick off Astro as a beginner
So versatile for visual , DSO imaging and Planetary imaging
I started with one and still use it 5 years later Ali g with my 8”f5 newt
New year will updating again to a 10” f5 CF newt for imaging
Cheers

Great capture Mick, way better than I have achieved.

Tried a galaxy lately? NGC300 is up at midnight, and it's big!
