I am a little coy when it comes to comparing my backyard amateur efforts to results from the HST
(often results with phrases that rhyme with “what an anchor” ). :P
Caveats aside, looking at the (absolutely awesome) HST imagery, then my own humble effort…
yep, there some cool features that actually can be hinted at from the ‘burbs.
Narrow field rules OK ! (http://www.atscope.com.au/BRO/gallery527.html) :D
That's a great comparison Peter.
It really begs the question of how much more you could eek out in a head to head comparison if you were to go with your own narrowband data. Maybe that's a comparison for another project?
Best

Peter,
Comparisons aside, your image has astonishing detail for a ground based amateur telescope in the burbs ( I’m assuming Bortle 7 in Shire ?? )
A very professional presentation
Thanks for posting

Nice. It maps one to one. And that's RGB. I reckon Ha would be even closer.

Ta guys. I don't think, for an object this bright, bortle 7 skies have much of an effect.
Being just 120m above sea level however...maybe I should spruik it as Australia's lowest observatory! :D
I do however wonder how this 'scope would perform in the Andes....
I may indeed try a Ha OIII and SII set (an NII filter, as used in the HST image is not in my arsenal).
As the Donald used to say: "we'll see what happens..."

I reckon lucky imaging with bright objects like these would yield some very good results. You have the flux for it.

Nice work. Whats the seeing normally like at your observatory? Sometimes seeing near the coast can get pretty good if you have nice laminar airflow off the ocean. Usually in Newcastle its not that good but last few nights its been pretty good, I did a narrow field M8 at F11.2 with a 2x converter I will post today

After Eagleview you should name it Bikini Bottom View ;)

Eagle view? Bah! I have a few "astro" snaps from my office window at 45,000 feet :D
If memory serves, there is a place called "Emu Bottom" near Sunbury,
but have no idea whether there is an observatory there.
I believe lake Eyre is 15m below sea level.
..but what the atmosphere is like at "Ayre Bottom" observatory could be questionable

That is a great comparison! The resolution you're getting with that RC16 is extremely impressive.

Always wondered what the transparency would be like in this type of remote location if you get over the extreme heat in summer. Can't be that bad in the middle of winter? I suspect the dust might be a problem. More so than the hot wind. :P
