Just before lockdown I spent a few hours down at the Western Treatment Plant trying to shoot the birds of prey.
Unfortunately it was an overcast and windy day, with patches of rain - so not perfect photography conditions. I will get back there on a nicer day when we open up again, but until then - here's what I got.

I've always thought overcast days were perfect for bird photography as sunlight has a tendency to blow out their brighter feathers.
These are lovely. Can't believe you got that many in a few hours :)
I absolutely love photographing raptors :)

Super sharp. :eyepop: That first shot looked odd until I realised it was his lunch hanging at the back.

Overcast good. Really dark with rain patches. Not so good :)

Sorry Bob, I don't understand your reply. I was referring to the grouse that you captured. I don't see any grouse, only raptors. I'm not sure if grouse are native to Australia; if they are not you probably didn't get my silly joke.

ahh sorry Ray, cross wired,, I didnt see your connection with Grouse and raptors, still dont actually, grouse is just an aussie slang word for very good, or great stuff, pronounced similar to house. I didn' t know one could actually see a 'grouse' ,,, what are they mate ?
Cheers for that David

Hi Bob, Grouse are birds that like ducks, are flushed out with dogs and shot with shotguns, in the U.K. and Europe, and probably elsewhere. There are seasons for it, like we have seasons for abalone and crayfish. It was just a bit of silliness, remarking that you reckoned you had captured grouse, but I could
only see pics of raptors.
