M16 Eagle in OSC Narrowband SHO

Thought I’d give M16 another shot as conditions were good last night on the South Coast
NexDome Obs
4 hours of good data ( 3 min subs )
8”f5 GSO newt
EQ6-R mount
ZWOASI2600MC set in Ascom to Lowest Read Noise Gain 100 cooled to -10C
Goto and tracking EQMOD and Ascom Stellarium
PHD2 Multistar guiding 0.75 to 0.85 arc sec error total
Captured in APT
Stacked in DSS
Processed in Startools V1.7 Compose OSC Linear
Used one of the SHO presets in the colour matrix
Slight adjustments in saturation and colour bias

Thanks , still experimenting with gain 0 ( HDR ) or gain 100 ( LRN ) on different exposure lengths for different objects but as far as cooling goes -10C is more than adequate , there’s no need to cool lower
Pleased with this result
Did some planetary imaging last night until midnight, and then took up your suggestion and imaged Sculptor galaxy until 3.30am

It’s just the way it came out of the stacker probably due to the majority of frames orientated that way after the meridian
I could have flipped it but decided to leave it to give an alternative perspective of the object
I kinda like it
Ive noticed some folk on IIS present M8 longitudinal North South maybe to squeeze it into their FOV or can’t be bothered rotating the camera , or processed it that way and didn’t rotate it , who knows ??

Just remember that Composition is key to any image, be it Astrophotography, documentary, Landscape or Wedding/Portrait. Technical considerations follow suit after that.

Regardless of the subject matter, established conventions such as the rule of thirds, golden mean etc were all used the the great master painters of the renaissance and continue to this day. They do so for a good reason, it creates a balanced image that has initial impact & is pleasing to the eye. :)

That doesn't mean copying traditional M16 framing to match what everyone else does, but if you do choose to stray from convention, best consider doing so for reasons of creativity. :thumbsup:

I come from an electrical engineering background , never picked up a decent camera until 5 years ago ( iPhone excluded ) let alone an Astrophotography camera so I lean towards the Science and Engineering of the hobby and not so much the Artistic or Creativity angle , but I know in this hobby they all go together
