I found a pic of a set of craters I had been chasing for a time. These particular craters are not particularly spectacular in themselves, but the names they bear are. Three significant mariners, all pioneers in their own times, Columbus, Magellan & Cook.

Heaven knows how many shots I took, but that's how it is if you only want a single good frame. Its one great thing about these cameras, you just delete what isn't good enough. And with enough shots and patience, some very good pics can be had from a single shot and a half decent scope.

One thing I've started taking a bit more care with is making sure the phone/camera is a square with the eyepiece as possible. Something that can be tricky to be aware of and not often considered with the excitement of the chase and getting a shot is spicing things along. Well worth mentioning too for others to keep an eye on as well.

Pic details

Processing: Just a little with PhotoDirector

Scope: 9" Santel Maksutov, f/13.5

That's a very good result Alex for a single image. Have you thought about using video mode with the phone camera and then stacking the frames in Registax or other software.

Thanks Jeff :)

No, not at the moment. If I go to the trouble of getting video I will be setting up my 224 camera. But I'll see what happens if only to gain some experience with this method of using a smartphone. There are people who are doing some very nice deep sky AP this way.
