The “baby” is finally been published and available.
http://solar-astronomy-book.com/
I can assure you that this is the most up to date reference on all aspects of solar observing available to the amateur.
If you only buy one book on the Sun, this is the one to buy.
Highly recommended.

Got an e-mail notification today, with the Subject Line in French, and I almost marked it as junk until I saw that it was from AXILONE, who came up in the purchasing process.
Looking forward to a good read - hope it's not in French!;):)

Thanks Ken I have been hoping for this for a long while.Always good to support those that put so much time and effort into their interests. It may also inspire me to dust off(read clean the filters)of my solar gear.

Derek,
The original French version created a benchmark which was crying out to be shared with the wider English market.
I’m pleased that the publisher agreed with me. Now you have access to the most up to date solar reference book available.
Anyone who has an interest in solar observing will not be disappointed.
Where else would you learn about “veiled” sunspots??
Thanks Ken.
My next purchase. I love the planetary book.

Postage may take some time due to the current situation.

I have just received an email from Axilone that my copy of Solar Astronomy is awaiting customs clearance in Roissy France prior to departure to Australia.
I ordered the book on 10th July and it was shipped on the 13th.
It appears that there is no cause for concern, in case any of you have not received your copies yet. :)

Now I have browsed a little more I am gobsmacked by the riches found therein.:)
Similarly, I am gobsmacked at what must have been a herculean effort in translating the book, it given the breadth and depth of technical content.
Good job Ken.

My order was placed 12th July and the book arrived today. You can cut and paste the tracking code that was sent by the publisher into Australia Post tracking and it may give you more of an idea where it's at. Mine sat at Paris airport from 20th July until it arrived in Sydney on the 19th August, then delivered to Gold Coast today.

Yeah, for mine the Paris tracking says its in Sydney, and the Sydney tracking says its in Paris.......
Cheers,

At least you got tracking :). I had no communication other than Paypal email. Ordered on July 9 & received yesterday so a bit of inconsistency there...but hope that reassures others. Book looks great.

I emailed the publisher, who sent me a tracking link, according to which my copy is still in Paris also. I would have thought it the responsibility of the sender here to enquire with La Poste as to why the packages have not left France in over a month. I'll give it some more time, but ultimately I will ask for a refund. I their email, Axilone Astronomy were blaming Australia Post :(

If its any consolation, the on-line link to the Tracking info' showed my book stuck in France for weeks and weeks, then suddenly, it arrived on my doorstep with no interim Tacking Info updates, so if the the tracking data does not update, it might be just that's how their system works?
Well worth the wait though.:)

Ken thanks for the translation.I am very impressed with the layout of the book and it provides that link between Astronomy Magazines and University texts.I like that it includes such a diverse number or varying Solar observation types .There is something in there for everyone.
I have already been sidetracked by Chapter 9 so I will probably start my essential reading there.:)
Once again thanks for letting us all know about this book and your input into the translation.

Derek,
Many thanks:thumbsup:
In the amateur solar telescope scene, things seem to change quickly and move fast.
I have to mention the latest spectroheliograph project from Christian Buil.
His 3D printed Sol'Ex design combined with the excellent INTI software by Valerie Desnoux has the potential to transform the SHG capabilities.
http://www.astrosurf.com/solex/sol-ex-presentation-en.html
Making use of the very small pixel (<3micron), fast frame Cmos (>300fps) cameras and very narrow entrance slits (10 micron) combined with specially designed collimating and imaging lenses, the early results are truly amazing!!
The solar image can be reconstituted from the SHG scan in less time than it took to type this sentence - 3 sec!!! almost real time imaging.
The future of "cost effective" multi-wavelength solar imaging is close to hand.
