Hi all,

I thought I would make a thread with a difference. One with no beautiful pictures at all, just experiments from someone trying out his telescope with a DSLR and using a manual alt-az mount :)

The photos below taken with canon 70d connected via prime focus to a Skywatcher 102 f10 achromat refractor.
Settings on the DSLR were ummm.....whatever seemed to make sense at the time :confused2:
I tried out a range of exposure settings and ISO but having very little experience with neither the DSLR nor the telescope the results are mixed at best.
But no matter.....I shall share the photos anyway

i think you've got some nice shots in there Ahmed. I would just crop the off-centre shots to centre the moon. Another thing you could do where there is a blue tinge is to use selective colour in photoshop to reduce the blue (if you have it).

well done :)

Thank you Russ!

Your shot of the colliding galaxies is just amazing https://www.flickr.com/photos/80336656@N07/24268283933/
You can even make out the lanes of stars flung because of the collision (at least that's what I think they are)

Great shots Ahmed, the second one is my favourite. You don't see the Moon like that very often

On the Danjon scale, this was not a very dark eclipse and was tricky to capture easily, so don't be too hard on yourself.

An EQ mount will certainly give you sharper results and with that, plus a little practice with your camera, you'll be far more confident when the next eclipse comes around in November.
