Absolutely love Daniel Craig in the role of James Bond .. best Bond ever others may disagree. Skyfall was my favourite. But Daniel Craig's time in the role is coming to an end and they are looking for another actor to take up the role to continue the franchise.

Actors touted to play the role:
Rege-Jean Page .. First non-white actor for the role but definitely could modernise the role.
Tom Holland - aka Spiderman .. good actor but too young for the role IMO
Cillian Murphy - good actor and has the physical attributes
Idris Elba - same as Rege-Jean Page
Chris Hemsworth - possible physical attributes but hell no.
Richard Madden - Game of Thrones and The Bodyguard very good choice.
Harry Styles - Whilst he pulled of a reasonable acting ability in Dunkirk same as Hemsworth ... hell no.

There is even talk the next Bond may be a woman ... are the purists ready for a Jane Bond?

Probably be some gender neutral character. I see they have made Loki gender fluid now, in his new movie. Can they not just leave these characters as they were originally written?
Ian Fleming will be spinning in his grave with rage.

As M has pointed out, Bond is a blunt instrument, and thus should be played by someone that can be that. All these 'woke actors on your list could not pull It off.

Perhaps an actor like Chiwetel Ejiofor, who played the Parliament Operative in Serenity, and has other blunt instrument roles under his belt, but usually is a supporting character. Might not be able to carry the lead.

I thought it's already decided that it's going to be a woman?

Alex, doesn't Rex only understand German? Why not Skippy, if we're considering animals?

As crazy as it sounds I think they are better to select " a no name" actor. That approach allows the new actor to stamp a new an unique approach. In these situations the producers are usually trying to please the old market but somehow gain a new market...well my cynicism says you wont please the old market and those that follow will be somewhat of a bonus...plus the old market is exactly that..old .not likely to be where the major inflow of dollars come from...so go for a new actor..heck if you are in the game and cant recognise a potential star what are you doing there...

So is Harrison Ford .. resurrecting Indiana Jones for the 5th time .. wonder how that is going to work.

I like Alex's idea of casting a no name actor to play Bond.

I have no issues with any actor (Male, Female, or whatever) playing the role, but I suspect things will go the same way Dr Who - just a virtue signaling exercise with appallingly bad scripts leading to the death of the franchise.

Some will some wont but perhaps what we need to remember is that Hans has started a thread to enable interested folk to have a focal point to kick off conversation and provide opportunity to have a nice chat and so it has to be a good thing and perhaps we could firstly thank Hans which hopefully will have him starting more threads some of which will I expect be of more interest for you Leon and secondly you could start a thread which reflects more areas of interest more fitting with something you feel could be a good conversation starter.

My vote for a Jane Bond ... Scarlett Johansson .. loved her in Iron Man 2 but granted Bond is British.

I care! Daniel Craig was the best Bond, made That Brosnan look like the monochrome dunce he was.

Please, not Hemsworth! I hope it’s Madden, he was superb in The Bodyguard.

I was hesitant about Daniel Craig at the start, but he did prove to be the best Bond since Sean Connery and perhaps overall. I think it has to do with the simultaneous qualities of (semi)-sophistication, intelligence, physicality and detachment (stone cold killer).

Apparently, Barbara Broccoli has said that James Bond will never be female. She's also said James Bond could be played by a female. Personally, I can't think of a female actor who would be convincing enough. Then again, there were some male actors who didnt exactly nail it either.

I don't like any of the actors on Hans' list as James Bond (sorry Hans). I'd be open to someone relatively unknown, though, if they have the right qualities (as if my opinion matters).

There's no shortage of possibilities - just search for "next james bond" and read the first half-dozen articles that come up.

Not sure how Bond fans felt when they introduced a younger 'Q' in Skyfall but I think Ben Whishaw's addition and performance in the role was/is brilliant. Bond and Q's first meeting and exchange was damn funny. Also Ralph Fiennes as 'M' another great choice but Judi Dench was the best 'Q'.

Please, I grew up with many male role models, I've watched all the JB movies from Connery to Craig, (there has only been three IMO that have had the attributes of a cold hard killer when they need to be), Connery, Dalton, Craig), Lazenby had potential, Brosnan, Moore, to wishy washy IMO. I do prefer to keep James Bond as a male, are we moving that far afield that all role models will be female. If a female does get the role any sexual innuendo may need to be removed from the movies otherwise she will be classed as a whore, which Bond has been labeled a male version of. I will throw Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, James McAvoy, into the pot of potentials.

Hans Tucker

James McAvoy ... hmmm .. good actor but Bond needs to be taller IMO.

TrevorW

NAh !! not really they make Mr Cruise look taller in all his movies and McAvoy's the same height a Cruise :)
