Hi All,
Well the weather leaves a lot to be desired, but in between cloud I got 5 x 6 Min. Exp. of ngc3372 with the new QHY8 cooled Camera, Of course processing is a whole new adventure (Just got used to the Canon 300D), anyway herewith my first results, a single 6 Min. Exp., with/without a matched DF removed, not much difference so it looks like the Camera is nice and quiet (which it should be at -20 C) Im looking forward to using it on the LX200-F-10 for M83 Etc. long exposures, we shall see, I will also post the results of combining the 5 Pix. of Carina.

1 x 6 Min. Exp. -ED80- guided

cheers..........Jim

Very nice Jim, like Mike said, looking forward to more.

How different is it to process than the Canon 300D shots?
Are they in RAW format?

Nice first light. Is this the single colour shot version? Why did you head down this path compared to the flexibility of a monochrome chip and colour filters?

Hi All,
Thanks for the comments, Well "Jase" I choose the colour chip because of the time factor, I get little enough observing time as it is (moon+ cloud) where I live (not like inland) and Tri-colour imaging takes a lot more time with of course better results if your going "Hi-Fi", but I was very impressed with the Canons results (still am), But the QHY8 will allow much longer exposures as required at High F ratios (F-10)---Andrew- The output files are "FITS" so no requirement to change from RAW (which is no problem in I.P.) anyway.

Herewith the combined result of - 5 x 6 Min. Exp. w/DF removed (from each Exp.), seems to help a bit, Ill try a long (30 Min. Exp.) for comparison (if the sky ever clears) and post the result.

cheers.................Jim

Top shot Jim, it's turned out very nice and detailed. The colour is very natural looking as well.
Your new camera has done well.

Cheers

Congrats on the new camera.
Looks like a real winner and the image just shows this coupled to the Ed80.
Pin point stars and the core looks great, no sign of over exposure.

Look forward to more images!

Cheers
