Has anyone else here in Melbourne noticed that there seems to be a relationship between moon phase and cloud cover? For the past few months the clearest nights have been on or around the full moon. The rest of the lunar month is generally cloudy, peaking around new moon.

I think that is just one of Murphy's Laws!

Talk to someone at the BOM if that's possible.

I’m actually curious about this as well. Maybe I’ll create a spreadsheet that folks can update to include a general location, moon phase and cloud cover (high, medium, low) to get some data....
Or just look at historical data for the same thing :D
But if the moon impacts tides there’s no reason why it wouldn’t also impact cloud cover with moisture levels changing for a given location
It's unusually cloudy on eclipse nights though....
Like most holes, those in the cloud are more noticeable when light shines through them

Had a full moon last night and thin cloud cover just thick enough to block the stars. The days are fine and cloud free. I'll check again tonight.
