Fire and Ice - Vela SN fragment in Bi-colour HOO

This is my first attempt at a section of the the Vela SN remnant towards the northern edge I believe.

I like the contrast between the fire of the emission nebula here and the blue ice of the SN remnant itself. I played around with different orientation here... landed on this one...a bit like a blobby red creature riding on the blue waves of space. Or fire coming of some twigs of ice ;-)

A total of 10hours from a mixed bag over four nights...starting to set early and imaging the Cat's/Dog's Paw nebula i(Posted earlier) n later evening.

This is stacked and processed in APP combined as HOO. Then imported into Photoshop with some adjustment using the astronomy tools plug in.

Great job Robert, that teal twist is my favourite bit of the Vela SNR area, you've done a lovely bicolour job. It reminds me of the double helix, so I have always referred to it as the DNA Nebula :P...although framed horizontally like this, it also resembles a moustache...

After using the riccardi reducer for the last month (and on this and other images here) I swapped back to the straight TS-optics flattener and F6 the last couple of nights... now I know plenty of variables, seeing, greater impact of guiding at longer FL etc, but I dont seem to be getting my stars as tight in the subs... they seem more bloated even with a fair bit of effort focussing... not bad just not as tight as using the reducer ... I'd have expected the opposite... could be the riccardi is just a step up in optilcal quality over the TS flat... it's a step up in price anyway:P

I would expect stars to be tinnier with a reducer because you are taking in a wider field of view so individual everything is at a smaller scale.

I have a Riccardi reducer and it makes things very sensitive to tilt.I put it on a CFF105 and it magnified a tilt error badly. I'll get it right but it will take an hour or so.

The AP has available the extremely high quality Quad TCC which is .72X as a reducer/flattener. I have had one before and its a great accessory giving F4.5 on the AP130. Unfortunately its also expensive. It does work on other refractors to at the right spacing.

Ah makes sense Greg. I have the APM tilt adapter as well for the Riccardi and got it pretty close with a lot of fiddling. Does my head in trying to translate from screen to sensor to physical tho. Getting better on the TS flat last night at least. TS flat has however thrown out my focus curve as well though and havne't found NINA settings yet to optimum.
