Alan I used to own a GSO 16" Strut Dob and the only reasonable way to transport it was in pieces. The top section in its padded carton and the primary mirror box and base had to be rolled up ramps into the back of the 4wd. I got a hernia from that thing. Just sayin, be careful.

Hi Alan, yes the 16" Skywatcher Goto dob comes out of the base pretty easily - just a couple of largish knobs, similar to the other sizes in that range. Good to have someone to help, or a sturdy back - I used to have some tiedown straps around my tube to make it easier to lift. The 14" & 16" models also have base panels that can be easily removed/disassembled with similar knobs for ease of transport (as others have mentioned, the tube and the base are both heavy beasts), whereas with the smaller versions you generally assemble the panels with bolts/allen keys and leave them assembled. You'll need plenty of help if you plan to move the 16" in its fully assembled state.
