I'd like to replace the collimation screws on my 14" LX200 GPS with some thing easier to handle. Bintel or scopestuff does not seem to have any replacement thumb screws. Does anyone know the size of the collimation screws? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks and clear skies
Huey

Have you looked at Bob’s Knobs.
I used them on all Meade SCT.

Thanks Ken,
I had a look, but unfortunately I have the earlier model and they don't carry any screws for that as it interferes with the light path. Hence I was thinking pf either using machine screws or make my own and for that I need the thread size.

Thanks again for you help.
Clear skies,
Huey

Huey,
Ahhhh, I didn’t realize the early 14” SCT was so different!
Doesn’t look like an easy solution.
What about an extended (30mm or so) Allen grub screw and use a Knob fitted to the end of an Allen wrench which could be used on each screw then removed, would that help?

If you can determine the thread size , there are plenty of knurled thumb screws on eBay. I bought a packet of 5 stainless steel ones with the same thread as those on my SW dob for $5 posted from Hong Kong. Much cheaper and available than bobs knobs.

Philip,
When you look at the design of the secondary mirror holder on the early 14" Meade SCT the collimating screws are small grub screws at the very edge.
No room for fixed knobs.

Thanks Merlin, that's similar towhat I had in mind, but I thought I ask to find out if there are different solutions to the problem since most forum members are pretty cluey and often think outside the box.
