I found it!!!!

I found it,I was looking through my binos and stumbled upon it.It looked different than other stars even at 10x,I just had to investigate further with my humble 114mm newt,It was then I saw it was the jewel of the sky SATURN,I am a happy camper now as i have seen it for the first time!!!!!:thumbsup:

Congratulations - it seems that Saturn, more so than any other planet, produces this exuberant response when viewed for the first time. When our club holds a public field night, Saturn always brings out the “whoopees” and “oh my goshes”.

Yep, had an elderly couple from Ararat at SVAA last Friday night with their new dob that they got ripped off with (I won't say which retailer sold it to them).

The retailer said it is fine and won't need any further collimation after he did it :eyepop:

All they could see were blobs. They brought it along, I collimated it, and Bingo!

I pointed it at Saturn and this lovely old lady yelled out at the top of her voice 'F---'!!!!! :rofl:

saturn is definitely better to see than jupiter for beginers in bad seeing i think...

Showed Saturn through my scope to my father-in-law (& his father!) tonight and they were totally blown away. It's only a few weeks since my first view, so I can well remember how amazing a sight it is for the first time. I'm still waiting for really good viewing though. Dark skies, but too many houses around here with hot roofs, which makes the air wobble to a degree I wouldn't have believed.

And Saturn is not at its best for us this year, nor for a while yet. Nevertheless it is a mind-blowing object to see for the first time. I met someone once when I was living in Perth. Complained about the light pollution around where we lived and he invited my wife and I to his place - a nice dark rural spot.
Set up the old 8" LX50 that I had before the LX90 and trained it on Saturn. The man's small daughter was standing by ready to have a look at anything. So I pointed to Saturn as a light in the sky and then invited her to look through the EP. What I got was a 'Wow!!!!' My heart melted. I must be a softie. :whistle:

Yes the first view of Saturn through the EP is an experience that most people won't forgot and hopefully the first of many.

Keep searching. You can find lots of other sites Jupiter, Mars Tuc 47 and Omega Centaura with those Binos. The funs only just beginning.:welcome:

I don't think anyone ever forgets their first view of Saturn through a 'scope. I most assuredly have not. My first view was through a little 2" Tasco unit on an alt-az tripod but even with that and chasing it across the sky it presents such a '3D' appearance when compared with a 'flat' Jupiter or Mars that it seems to affect all first timers.

It would be nice to think that many of those who are 'gobsmacked' by such a view go on to further their interest in the night sky.

A week or so ago I set up the 8" in Leo76's backyard, set up on Saturn with reasonable magnification and invited her to look. I cannot tell you how much she enjoyed that!

Just seeing it hanging there in the sky is so unreal, but then you realize that WOW, I'm seeing it for real.
