Hi all

Don't forget the Moon occults Antares (a Scorpii) tonight.

Good opportunity for those who have not seen Antare's companion to do so when it emerges from the dark limb.

Cheers

Bit low (15 degrees altitude) for us here John when that takes place.

The atmospheric disturbance will have a great effect on seeing the companion, but I'll still have a look:)

Might even try and capture an AVI or 2 with the ToUcam and/or DMK

They will have to be quick avi Matt. I think it is about 7 sec between appearance of the companion and then Antares ;)

:poke:

Ahhhh...

You haven't seen what I'm capable of in 7 seconds, mate!!!!

With the DMK... operating at 30fps...that's 210 frames!!!!!!!!!!!!

A couple of days ago someone posted a link to a map of the moon and the exit point of Antares. Unfortunately I can't seem to find it now. Does anyone, by chance have a copy of it or the link.

Thanks

Hey Paul

Im off to capture a few AVI's - I agree that it is a bit low and will prove a challenge, but will give it a go!

I cannot see to locate the companion in "Starry Night"?

Cheers Petra

Gotta have a go at this one.
The Canon can shoot at 60fps :P.
(Now where's that chain saw so I can have a good horizon.)

I think I'll just go set up the 20x80's on my EQ5 lol not the best but it will
be low any ways.

Oh! dany I'll drag out the 8" wif the 14 XW in it. I love looking at the moon
phases with that EP.

Clear as here, except on the coast to the east : ( but hopefully should still
be able to nab it.

regards, CS and happy occulting

the rain stopped me, I have the scope setup in my room up the back, given the low horizon event and the showers I have opened and closed the door several times. Unfortunately I missed the entire event. on the high side we had 8mm rain in that 1.5 hours

That was flipping fantastic!!
The little one popped out of the dark, and before you could say, "Is that it?" Antares barges out and steals the show.
Brilliant.
I can't wait to see what you imagers captured.
I didn't want to miss seeing it so the only pictures I took were after the event.

Missed it by 20 pixles. Thats right if I had left the damn thing alone I would have captured it, but nooooo I had to go move it didn't I. Oh well there will be others :)

Hi Paul

Needed to set up early - observation/imaging point is not ideal so needed to prepare.

Just checking through the AVI's - chewed up lot of computer space:scared:

Cheers Petra

Were able to observe the re-appearance which was very cool!
Wasn't able to split Antares, due to prevailing conditions. But
the event was pretty much how JJJnettie discribed it. The light
of the companion came into view first then Blam it changed to
the usual telescopic view of Antares

btw Great shot JJJnettie

Missed the disappearance due to cloud.

Last minute change of plans here so I wasn't able get a go at it at all. Congrats to everyone who got a glimpse. Better luck for me later in the year or next year.

Sniff, sniff, I missed it. I didn't even know it was happening.

I went out to empty the bin and glanced up at the moon and spotted Antares next to it. I thought "Wow that looks very close to the moon". I ran inside and fired up CdC and saw I had missed Antares reappearing by 5 minutes. :tasdevil: Oh well, better luck next time.
