Another shot of M42 from last night.

I managed to get a few images of galaxies as well - Centaurus A, Sombrero, Spindle but very small objects in frame in prime focus mode so won't bother posting. Around midnight high sirrus cloud returned illuminated by the moon so packed up before other goodies rose i.e. M8, 16, 17, 20 etc. :mad2:

details - prime focus - Skywatcher 200mm Newt - EQ6 Pro - 350D - MPCC
20 sec @ ISO800 - processing PS 5.5

heaps of details in the core steve. great shot. do some longer exposure shots to capture the other details of m42 then use a layer mask on the smaller sub image. more info on layer mask here

Thanks Ric. I find with single shots that any more than 20 seconds burns out the trapezium .... at least that's at iso800 with the F5 Newt. I think what Eric has suggested is probably the way further forward to achieve more detail of the entire nebulae structure.
