It was near Brookvale Park (i think) and on the main road (Pittwater Road). 'Must have been at least 15 years ago...

Well TASCO is located in Brookvale, in the industrial area.

Google Maps search suggests Tasco, Camera House, and York Optical

Love Google Maps! :)

Thanks folks.

Chris, strangely, i also used google maps but used "astronomy brookvale pittwater road" rather than "telescopes Brookvale" - but nothing came up.

So i tried "astronomy brookvale" again this morning and lo and behold there it was - "Astronomy Online - CLOSED" (in place of York Optical for your search phrase). I think York optical "may" have taken over from Astronomy Online, but this is testing my memory now.

Anyhow, thanks for the leg-up. "Astronomy Online" it was.

Definitely was York Optical.
At least that's what they called themselves when I visited just over 10 years ago.
Sad to see it go.

There was also another dealer at Crows Nest I visited. Astro Optical Supplies. Closed too I believe.

And one at Broadmeadow (near Newcastle) I spent a lot of time and money there when I worked at nearby Lambton.
I think is still operating. Survey and Instrument Specialists.

Did some detective work and came up with this shot from 2009.

Thanks All,

Thanks for the sleuthing Michael! Your photo has actually happily confirmed to me that it wasn't York Optical, but Astronomy Online :-) The facade was darker and the signage was very different. I suspect York might have bought Astronomy Online out (or even the other way around, who knows?). Also, York optical doesn't sound right, whereas Astonromy Online jags a strong memory.

So, given that both shops were there, you're all hitting sixes.

cheers
