I was informed this evening (after struggling to process this as best I could) that ED80's aren't all that good for planetary work!

Oh well, I gave it my best shot. I got this image of Joop just as it rose from the horizon. Needless to say the seeing was rubbish being that low

ED80, Toucam (on normal mode :eyepop: almost forgot it had normal mode :P ), 1.25" 2x barlow in a 2" 2x barlow. (captured-4th April 2007, about 10:30pm)

I quite like it as I think it's the best I've ever gotten. But I'll leave the planets to the Planetary guys

I'm impressed! Well done!

Thats the best planet shot I have ever seen from a small refractor!

I'd like to see what the ED 80 could do with better conditions.

:eyepop: are you serious?

OK, I'll give it another go when the moon racks off, and I'll let Joop get higher in the sky
Thanks Dave, you've made me feel better about my pic :)

That's pretty good Ken, there's room for potential improvements even, which means that it really could be used for (small scale) imaging of planets.

But, you're 12" will do a much better job :)

yeah throw the 12" on top of the Guidescope Ken :D

Seriously Great pic there Ken, but you already know that :P

Good image Ken, imagine how much better it would be at higher elevation. Keep going with the ED80, I'm curious to see what you can produce.

Thanks, but I'm not stuffing my EQ6 mount by putting the 12" on it.

Plus, I'm not into planets. Just thought I'd try them while the Moon is washing out the DSO's

I'll give it another go with Eadie Aitey when it gets higher Phil
Just for you ;)

Ken that is exceptional:thumbsup: because firstly it is very good but more importantly it is clear that you can do even more if you wanted to go to all the trouble, good night no dust up there etc etc you know one of those perfect nights.

The things you are getting with your set up are just getting better and better:) .
Permanent set up allows you to go further, also you do not have to redo adjustments perfect by dawn the earlier night but you had to pull down before breakfast:) .

I have worked for five days (er nights) straight building up to "the perfect" night leaving the gear set up but under a cover and it made all the difference.

I still think 80mm has so much going for them... I want to go for a good one, the best is affordable but go to 100mm and wow are they good:) … but a car prices:eyepop: .

Go for it mate I am so impressed and so very happy it is going so well for you and getting excellent results:thumbsup:   .

I been thinking of a 12 inch “strip down” OTA for deep sky set up to go on the eq6 to make it happy with the new weight of a 12inch so I will let you know how it goes:) . I have to get a certain camera first;) .
Alex:) :) :)
